An Introduction to Poems For Mothers Day

If you are like me then every year at Mothers Day you will struggle to think of something to buy for your Mom. My Mom seems to have everything that she needs so what do you do? Also often it is difficult to find a greetings card that has exactly the sentiment that you are looking for. Often I have thought of trying to write my own versus of a poem but I haven’t known where to start. Last year I thought of a different way of writing a poem in fact I wrote two personalised Poems for Mothers Day which delighted my Mom.

So how did I write my poems for my mother?

I have never been good at writing poetry so I had to think of a way of making it easier to do. After much thought I remembered some special occasions that I shared with my Mother from when I was a child. I wrote down what made those occasions such fond memories of my Mother. I also thought about the things that make my Mother so special and why I love her and I made notes

Next I studied what I had written and thought of words that rhymed with them and I wrote those down also. Because I am not that good at poetry I then searched on the internet for a Poem for Mothers Day which I felt I could adjust and change with some of my words and ideas. When I had finished this I was pleasantly surprised by efforts.

I then typed up my poem on my computer, printed it out and attached my 'masterpiece' to a special gift that I eventually bought.

My Mom was happy with the present and she was delighted with the Poems for Mothers Day that I wrote. In fact she has since framed one of them.

If you are worried that your efforts won’t be appreciated because you aren’t good at poetry then just remember that you Mother won’t expect you to be a poetic genius. But she will appreciate your effort and each of your carefully chosen personal words. So what are you waiting for?

M - O - T - H - E - R

"M" is for the million things she gave me,
"O" means only that she's growing old,
"T" is for the tears she shed to save me,
"H" is for her heart of purest gold;
"E" is for her eyes, with love-light shining,
"R" means right, and right she'll always be,
Put them all together, they spell
"MOTHER,"
A word that means the world to me.
Howard Johnson (c. 1915)

I love you mother, said little Nell
I love you more than tongues can tell.
Then teased and pouted for half the day
Till her mother rejoiced when she went out to play.
I love you mother, said little John
Forgetting his work, his cap went on.
Then he was off to the garden swing
Leaving his mother the wood to bring
I love you mother, said little Ann
Today I'll help you all I can
Then stepping softly she took the broom
Swept the floor and tidied the room.
I love you mother, again they said
Three little children all going to bed.
Now which one do you suppose really loved Mother the most?

and touch our lives in precious ways...

The values you've taught,
the care you've given,
and the wonderful love you've shown,
have enriched my life
in more ways than I can count.
